Findings revealed a disturbing picture of press freedom in Nigeria, with severe limitations resulting in a culture of self-censorship. Many journalists reported hesitation to cover sensitive topics, fearing retribution and backlash. Harassment and intimidation of journalists were discovered, with numerous cases of physical and verbal threats. Additionally, the study found a decline in investigative journalism, with few journalists reporting on corruption and human rights abuses. The study also noted a lack of transparency in media ownership and funding, leading to undue influence. To address the challenges facing press freedom in Nigeria, the study recommends strengthening regulatory frameworks to protect press freedom and ensure accountability. Implementing measures to prevent harassment and intimidation.
