Abstract

Good governance is characterized by a people-oriented government that harnesses national resources to improve social infrastructure and upholds the rule of law, equity, and justice. This paper explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and investigative journalism can enhance good governance in Nigeria. AI, defined as a computer system capable of performing complex tasks such as reasoning, decision-making, and problem-solving, remains in its embryonic stage in Nigeria, with limited government investment. Respondents expressed concerns that integrating AI into journalism could lead to job losses, high costs, and inaccuracies compared to traditional investigative journalism, which holds government officials accountable and ensures checks and balances. Despite these challenges, journalists view AI as an emerging technology with potential for processing and disseminating information in the future.
